Multiple Bordeaux

The images shown here were shot over the summer of 2006. I was drawn to the sweeping public works that would ultimately revamp Bordeaux, a town colloquially known as la belle endormie (i.e., the sleeping beauty).

The new tramway infrastructure reshaped the city center with entire streets devoted to pedestrians and cyclists. The new system also brought the suburban communities much closer to Bordeaux's center. The first phase of the growing network was completed in 2008.

Between 2005 and 2008, I hadn't anything in mind but respond to that rapidly changing urban landscape. In 2008, I ended up with pictures depicting moods, not facts.

Between 2008 and 2010 the project grew into an installation of large mobile displays that I placed where pictures were taken. It received both an official support and grant from the cultural department of the city.

Similar to Guy Debord's psychogeography and dérive, two concepts I wasn't aware of while shooting this project (2005-2008), I created a meandering track across the city, connecting vastly different boroughs and inviting visitors to lose sense of place and time.
